What are the differences between surgical masks, KN95 masks, and copper infused masks?

All filtering facepiece respirators (FFR) or face masks used for medical purposes in the United States must undergo certain regulatory testing requirements per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Such regulatory testing is completed to meet specific performance requirements and physical characteristics in order to guarantee a quality and consistent product. Other countries (i.e. New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China) or regions (Europe) have adopted their own specific testing requirements for FFRs and face masks, and in some cases, international standards (ISO) are agreed upon by leading experts from different nations.

Our reusable N99 Masks contain positively charged ions that are able to trap viruses that are negatively charged. The copper ions are then able to penetrate the virus and stop them from replicating. An April 2020 research study shows that copper is effective at deactivating the SARS-COV-2 virus within 4 hours (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2004973)..

Surgical masks provide barrier protection against droplets including large respiratory particles. These masks are not designed to fit tightly, which does provide some inward leakage around the edges of the mask when the user inhales.

Named for their ability to filter 95% of environmental particles in the air from static electricity (i.e. electrostatic attraction is simply when oppositely charged particles are attracted to a charged fiber). Respirator filters must meet more stringent certification requirements than surgical masks such as fiber diameters, fabric porosity, and filter thickness. The most important aspect of a filter’s performance is how well the respirator fits to the user’s face to minimize the degree of leakage around respirator edges.

What is the alcohol concentration in your hand sanitizers?

We have three different alcohol concentrations at 63% (gel), 75% (gel), and 80% (liquid).

This study (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/7/20-0915_article) was released early in June 2020 before it’s set publication date month (July 2020). This is the first study to show the World Health Organization’s recommended hand sanitizer formula strength (75 - 80% ethanol or isopropyl based alcohol solutions) was effective at inactivating the SARS-COV-2 (coronavirus) within 30 seconds of proper use. In addition, this study found that greater than 30% by volume  concentrations of ethanol or isopropyl alcohol at greater were also effective at inactivating the virus after using hand sanitizer on skin for 30 seconds.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) first and foremost recommends hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds if available. If soap and water are not available, CDC recommends consumers use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% ethanol or 70% isopropyl alcohol.

Under these conditions, all three of our hand sanitizers meet this recommendation.

The World Health Organization (WHO) makes two recommendations on hand sanitizer formula, in the form of volume by volume (v/v) concentrations:

Formula 1: 80% v/v of ethanol; 1.45% v/v of glycerol; 0.125% v/v of hydrogen peroxide.

Formula 2: 75% v/v of isopropyl alcohol; 1.45% v/v/ of glycerol; 0.125% v/v/ of hydrogen peroxide.

Under these set formula conditions, our 75% and 80% gel and liquid hand sanitizers meet these recommendations.
